Zeger Debyser, MD, PhD

Associate Professor, Biochemistry at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

Zeger Debyser received his MD in 1990 and his PhD in 1994 both from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (K.U.Leuven) in Belgium. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Medical School, USA, in 1992-1993. Until 2003 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Rega Institute for Medical Research (KULeuven). In 2000 he was appointed ÌÄå¢Ì¢‰Û_åÂÌɉÛÏSpecial Guest professorÌÄå¢Ì¢‰Û_åÂ? at the K.U.Leuven. Since 2003 he is Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the K.U.Leuven and the KULAK. He received the Upjohn price for scientific research at the Faculty of Medicine K.U.Leuven, the prize of the K.U.Leuven research council for biomedical Sciences and in 2003 the prize J.B. Van Helmont from the Royal Academy for Medicine of Belgium. The scientific interests of Prof. Dr. Z. Debyser are in the molecular virology and gene therapy field. He has promoted 4 PhDs and three Masters in the past. Currently he is promotor of 7 doctoral students. Dr. Debyser has been in charge of the Marie-Curie training site HPMT-CT-2001-00246 (2001-2005) on Gene therapy of neurodegenerative diseases using lentiviral vector technology.
