Foundation Statement on Michael J. Fox’s Personal Political Activism

Recent reports have publicized Michael J. Fox’s personal activities and endorsements related to the upcoming 2020 elections. It is important to note that The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) is not involved in any aspect of our founder’s advocacy for individual candidates in specific races. Michael’s decision on this front are his alone, in his capacity as a private citizen, and in no way in his capacity as the founder of MJFF.

As a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, The Michael J. Fox Foundation is prohibited by IRS regulation to endorse, contribute to, work for, or otherwise support any candidate for office. As such, MJFF is not involved in any activities pertaining to any candidate for election in any political race. However, in line with IRS regulations, the Foundation is permitted to use some percentage of our resources to engage in issue-related policy and advocacy activities. And we remain committed to working alongside a nationwide network of advocates and members of Congress to ensure government policies accelerate Parkinson’s research and increase quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and their families.
