Million Dollar Month: 2017 Wrap-Up

Million Dollar Month: 2017 Wrap-Up

This April, we challenged our Team Fox community to help raise the bar in honor of Parkinson's Awareness Month. With new members joining in from around the globe and old friends returning with tried and true events, over $615,000 was collectively raised during the month of April alone - 100 percent of which will go directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF)'s high impact research programs!

The creativity of our Team Fox community was on full display with amazing ideas like a 5K obstacle course challenge and "portion of proceeds" campaigns. Here are just a few other highlights::

Rock the Ridge: In anticipation of his return to this year's Rock the Ridge 50-mile Endurance Challenge, 11-year-old Owen Tracey fundraised hard during the month of April, officially crossing his $2,000 fundraising goal! After completing nearly 10 miles in last year's relay, Owen committed to running a longer, 14 mile distance in honor of his grandfather, who lives with Parkinson's.

Golf for the Cure: On Saturday, April 1, the Harmon family kicked off Parkinson's Awareness Month with their eighth annual golf outing in Lake Ashton, FL. With more than 200 golfers on two separate courses, this year's outing was their largest to date, raising over $50,000 for Team Fox and bringing their historic fundraising total to over $325,000 since inception! To celebrate? The Harmons traveled around the Sunshine State in support of other Team Fox members and their events throughout the month.

Birthday Bonanza: To celebrate her 65th birthday, long-time MJFF supporter Holly Kitay, who lives with Parkinson's, officially joined Team Fox and threw a "party with a purpose" at the Sonoran Glass School in Tucson, AZ. In lieu of gifts, Holly invited friends to make a donation in exchange for a night featuring glass blowing demos, food and fun! Holly raised over $8,000 thanks to generous gifts from friends and a unique glass auction.

Pancakes for Parkinson's: For the sixth year in a row, Team Fox member Jody Culmone and her granddaughter welcomed friends and community members to Chips Family Restaurant in Orange, CT for a pancake supper. Throughout the evening, 250 stacks of flapjacks were served and nearly $13,000 was raised with the help of an incredible auction.

Tee-ing Up Success: In partnership with a local t-shirt company, the Team Fox Young Professionals (YP) of New Orleans (Team Fox NOLA) designed and sold a custom tee to benefit Team Fox. With the promotional support from their fellow YP markets--and an unexpected plug from some Hollywood elite--the campaign raised over $8,000.

Thanks to each and every Team Fox member who helped make April a month to remember. Together, your efforts both inspired others and helped speed vital research progress.
