Brian Caulfield, PhD

Professor Brian Caulfield has worked at the interface of information and communication technology (ICT) and health since 2006, building strong collaborations with colleagues in computer science and biomedical engineering along the way. This focus led him to become a founding director of the Insight SFI Centre for Data Analytics, a large inter-institutional research center with a total funding envelope of €230m between 2013 and 2025. Professor Caulfield has collaborated with an Irish start-up company, Kinesis Health Technologies, over the past 10 years. Kinesis Health Technologies have developed and validated a digital solution for quantitative gait and balance measurement that can be used at point of care to deliver an accurate assessment of falls risk. He has published a large volume of scientific papers in collaboration with Kinesis based on its program of technical and clinical validation in community dwelling older adults and in clinical populations such as Parkinson’s disease.
