Cristina Miguelez, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She completed her doctoral research at UPV/EHU and postdoctoral training at the University of Bordeaux, specializing in preclinical models, electrophysiology, and circuit-level interventions in the basal ganglia, and has also been a visiting researcher at Lund University. Her research focuses on the pathophysiology and neuroanatomical circuits underlying non-motor dysfunctions in Parkinson’s disease, with particular emphasis on interactions between the locus coeruleus and basal ganglia. Dr. Miguelez co-directs a cross-border laboratory on PD comorbidities, mentors graduate and undergraduate students, and engages in international collaborations and public science communication, bridging cutting-edge neuroscience research with societal impact.
