Emma Lane, PhD

Reader in Neuropharmacology at Cardiff University

Location: Cardiff United Kingdom

Dr. Emma Lane, PhD, has built a research program on her passion for listening to, and utilising the patient voice. She co-leads the LEARN study team (Listening to the Experience of pARticipants in Neurosurgical trials), work that focuses on understanding the lived experience of participants in clinical trials of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) or other neurosurgical interventions for neurodegenerative diseases. The goal is to assist participants and their support network to engage in trials of advanced therapies whilst shaping the design of these new trials to develop more patient-centred approaches. Novel treatments for Parkinson’s disease (PD) risk producing novel side effects. In addition, they may need to be co-administered with current treatments in complex management regimes. To explore how to guide optimized delivery of novel therapeutics, Dr. Lane uses animal models of PD to better characterize and understand the interactions and side effects of drug-, cell- and gene-based therapies.
