Giovanni Piccoli, PhD

Assistant Professor at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele

Location: Milan Italy

Giovanni Piccoli, PhD, is a molecular neurobiologist who has been working in neuroscience filed since 2001. He received his Master of Science degree in medical biotechnology in 2001 and a PhD in molecular pharmacology in 2006 at the University of Milano. Dr. Piccoli completed his PhD fellowship from 2001 to 2006 at the IN-CNR Milano under the supervision of Dr. Carlo Sala, where he studied the mechanism of neuronal plasticity. From 2006 to 2010 he joined Prof. Ueffing’s laboratory at the Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen as a postdoctoral fellow. There he undertook the investigation of the physiological role of the LRRK2 protein. In 2010 he was awarded a FIRB grant to join the IN-CNR Milano as an independent researcher. In the 2013 Dr. Piccoli moved to the University San Raffaele. His group combines biochemistry, proteomics, and imaging and molecular biology to investigate the molecular mechanisms behind physiological and pathological neuronal activity.
