Hugo Geerts, PhD, Bach Med

After completing undergraduate studies in theoretical physics, and attaining a PhD in biophysics and medical studies, Hugo Geerts took a position with Dr. Paul Janssen at the Janssen Research Foundation in Beerse, Belgium (now J& J Pharmaceutical Research & Development), where he worked on the tau and amyloid pathology in Alzheimer’s disease, and introduced a transgene pre-clinical model. He was also heavily involved in supporting the successful pre-clinical, clinical and postmarketing development of galantamine, currently used in treatment of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer patients. In 2002 Dr. Geerts joined In Silico Biosciences, which provides mathematical modeling of pathological interactions in the brain, for use in drug discovery from target validation to clinical trial design. He is also currently Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research and has over 75 peer-reviewed publications and patents. He will complete an Executive Pharmaceutical MBA at Drexel’s Lebow Business College shortly.
