Inga Peter, PhD

Professor and Vice Chair at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Location: New York, NY United States

Inga Peter, PhD, is a genetic epidemiologist with a research focus on conducting cutting-edge analyses of genetic, genomic and microbiome data to better understand pathogenesis of complex disorders. Since joining Mount Sinai in 2008, her major area of interest has been genetics of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis, particularly in individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry. In 2012, Dr. Peter led a first genome-wide association study of CD in the Ashkenazi population that generated a comprehensive genetic panel for future studies of complex disorders including Parkinson's disease (PD). Recently, she and her team have established a direct genetic link between CD and PD.

Dr. Peter completed her graduate studies in genetic epidemiology at Tel Aviv University, Israel, and postdoctoral training in clinical research at Tufts University.
