Jérôme Baufreton, PhD, is a CNRS Research Director at the University of Bordeaux, His current research focuses on the basal ganglia, a group of subcortical brain nuclei that are critical for voluntary movement and associative learning and are the primary sites of dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder and addiction. His objectives are to define the cellular, synaptic and circuit principles underlying the normal and pathological operation of the basal ganglia in order to provide the foundation for the rational development of corrective or neuroprotective therapies. His research team has contributed to our understanding of basal ganglia synaptic and circuit dysfunctions in animal models of Parkinson’s disease. He has been appointed Dean of the Neuroscience research department (Bordeaux Neurocampus, ~ 800 scientists) of the University of Bordeaux in 2022 to promote and develop Bordeaux Neurosciences international influence and recognition.
