Dr. Luca Palmerini is a tenure-track researcher in Bioengineering at the University of Bologna. He is responsible for the course “Laboratory of wearables and mobile health” for the Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering. He completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Padua, followed by a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Bologna. With over 15 years of experience in wearable sensors, machine learning, and digital health, his research work focuses on innovative digital ways to monitor, predict, and rehabilitate motor impairments and adverse events for people with Parkinson’s disease and older adults. His current work focuses on using wearable sensors and machine learning for freezing of gait and fall risk prediction, remote monitoring of mobility, and digital evaluation of the effects of interventions (such as gait training and Deep Brain Stimulation) in Parkinson’s disease.
