Maria-Jose Catalan, MD, PhD, graduated 1979 and completed her PhD in medicine and surgery in 1991, both at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Since then, she has been part of the medical staff of the Neurology Department at Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid (Spain). From 2005 she has been the director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Unit.

In June 1995 Dr. Catalan received an FIS Grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and until September 1997 she was part of Dr Mark Hallet’s research team focused on neuroimaging in movement disorders.

Her main research interests are movement disorders, Parkinson´s disease, parkinsonism and dystonia; in basic and clinic research. She has done several presentations and has published papers on movement disorders, specifically focusing on Parkinson’s disease.
