Maria Jose Martí, MD, PhD

Maria Jose Martí, MD, PhD, has been head of the Parkinson and Movement Disorders Unit and consult medical staff at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona since 2009. She has been associate professor of the University of Barcelona since 1995. Dr. Martí is an accredited researcher at the Neurodegenerative Diseases Laboratory, and currently the coordinator of the Parkinson’s Disease and Other Neurodegenerative Disorders: Clinical and Experimental Research Group at the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS).

Dr. Marti received her MD at the University of Barcelona in 1981, a degree in neurology in 1985 and her PhD at the of the University of Barcelona School of Medicine in 1994. During her postdoctoral fellowship at the Columbia University Movement Disorder Unit, she studied neuronal death in an experimental model of Parkinson’s disease in Professor Robert Burke's lab.

Her research focuses on Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, with many publications in the field. Dr Martí has developed her professional career combining her medical work with neurological research focusing on Parkinson’s disease and dystonia.
