Maria Rosa Puertollano Moro, PhD, graduated from the Autonoma University in Madrid, Spain, with a BS in Biochemistry and a MS in Molecular Genetics. She earned her PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas and did her postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) between 1999 and 2004. Dr. Puertollano joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the NIH as a Principal Investigator in 2004, and she currently serves as the Acting Director of the Cell and Developmental Biology Center. Her research, which is focused in understanding the contribution of lysosomes to a variety of physiological process under normal and pathological conditions, has resulted in the publication of over 120 research articles, reviews and book chapters.
