Marta Bianciardi, PhD

Assistant Professor in Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School

Location: Boston, MA United States

Dr. Marta Bianciardi is an assistant professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School, an assistant in biomedical engineering at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and the director of the Brainstem Imaging laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). Her research focuses on the development of neuroimaging based tools that facilitate the investigation of brainstem nuclei structure, function, and connectivity in living humans in health and disease. With her team, she developed a novel atlas and connectome of human brainstem nuclei by ultra-high field multi-contrast MRI, and publicly released these within the Brainstem Navigator toolkit. This toolkit enables the automatic identification of brainstem nuclei location in conventional and advanced MRI of living humans. Dr. Bianciardi also applied the Brainstem Navigator to investigate arousal and motor mechanisms in disorders of consciousness, sleep disorders and motor disorders using 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla MRI.
