Paul A. Wetzel, PhD

Dr. Wetzel is an associate professor of Biomedical Engineering and assistant chair of the Undergraduate Program in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Prior to joining VCU, Dr. Wetzel worked at an Air Force Research Laboratory and conducted basic and applied research in eye and head movement control, in the development of eye and head tracking systems, flight simulation, visual performance measurement and eye tracking during pilot training. 

Over the past fifteen years Dr. Wetzel has been actively involved in the study of eye movements in Parkinson’s disease and other neurological movement disorders and, more recently, has utilized eye tracking to investigate and quantify the effects of mild traumatic brain injury on eye movement behavior and oculomotor control. Dr. Wetzel has also done extensive work on the development of computer-based algorithms for the automated detection and analysis of eye movement data.
