Rodrigo Coelho Barros, PhD, MSc, BSc

Dr. Rodrigo Barros received a PhD in computer science from University of Sao Paulo. His PhD dissertation was awarded best of the country by CAPES, which is the most prestigious award for young scientists in Brazil. He received the same award from the Brazilian Computer Society. He is currently associate professor at the School of Technology, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he leads the machine learning research in his department. He was the PI of several research grants, awarded both by the Brazilian government and by private companies, including the Google Research Awards for Latin America (four years in a row) and the Google Inclusion Award for his work on sign-language translation for aiding people with hearing impairment. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences and has received several best-paper awards in both national and international conferences.
