Shigeo Murayama, MD, PhD, has been a neurologist and neuropathologist in the Brain Bank for Aging Research (BBAR) Project in Tokyo, Japan for 22 years and principal investigator of the Japanese Brain Bank Network for Neuroscience Research. He has a research interest in alpha-synucleinopathies in aging populations, including Parkinson’s disease (PD) and subclinical or incidental Lewy body disease. Dr. Murayama’s work included the recent publication of systemic distribution and propagation of Lewy body pathology in peripheral autonomic system including skin, adrenal gland and olfactory epitherium. He is also interested in clinical, radiological and pathological correlation of olfactory system for possible pre-clinical diagnosis. Dr. Murayama is a member of an Executive Council Board, chair of the Brain Bank Committee and the president of the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Neuropathology.
