Vijay Mohan K Namboodiri, PhD

Associate Professor at University of California San Francisco
Location: San Francisco, CA United States

Dr. Vijay Namboodiri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at UCSF. He obtained his Bachelors in Engineering Physics from IIT-Bombay in Mumbai, India. He then obtained his PhD in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University, where he was advised by Dr. Marshall Hussain Shuler. He did his postdoctoral work in the lab of Dr. Garret Stuber first at UNC and then at UW. His lab's primary interest is to understand the biological algorithms and neuronal network mechanisms underlying associative learning, memory and decision-making. In addition to investigating these processes at a basic level, his lab aims to understand how they go awry in diseases such as addiction and Parkinson's disease. His lab is also interested in developing theoretical models of associative learning and decision-making. Dr. Namboodiri is the recipient of awards including Pew Biomedical Scholarship, Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship in Neuroscience, and the Alfred P Sloan Fellowship in Neuroscience.
