Research Tools Consortium

The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) spearheads the Parkinson's Disease Research Tools Consortium. This precompetitive consortium enables MJFF and industry collaborators to identify and develop new pre-clinical tools to address unmet research needs and accelerate experiments.

Foundation Strategy

Parkinson’s researchers need accessible and well-characterized laboratory tools to investigate the disease and impact of novel therapeutics. MJFF works with contract research organizations to develop and characterize high-quality tools. Once new tools are developed, we create or leverage existing practical distribution channels that remove hurdles to their widespread use by academic and industry researchers.

To drive tool development toward the greatest needs of the field, the Foundation spearheads the Parkinson's Disease Research Tools Consortium. Via this precompetitive consortium, MJFF and industry collaborators work to identify and develop new pre-clinical tools that address unmet research needs and accelerate experiments. By pooling resources, the Foundation and industry consortium members are furthering their investments and contributing to a richer field of available tools.

Key Deliverables and Results

Through regular teleconferences, consortium members discuss field needs and priorities. The consortium has thus far sponsored the creation of eight research tools focused on priority targets, such as alpha-synuclein and parkin.
