Paolo Bonato, PhD

Dr. Bonato’s research work is focused on developing methodologies to assess patient’s status in individuals with mobility-limiting conditions and on interventions to improve mobility. His work has particular emphasis on the use of wearable and other technologies to monitor patients in the home and community settings.

Dr. Bonato has co-authored more than 40 research papers and 130 conference proceedings. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) AdCom elected member, and President of the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology. He serves as Chair of the IEEE EMBS Technical Committee on Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems and as Chair of the IEEE EMBS Education Committee.

Dr. Bonato is Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering and for IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine. Dr. Bonato has received funding to support his research program from several sources including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation.
