Dr. Searles Nielsen is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. With a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington, her primary areas of expertise include neuroepidemiology, environmental epidemiology, and epidemiologic methods. Parkinson’s disease is her primary research focus, and she has a particular interest in the etiology of the disease and the use of “big data.” Additional areas of interest include manganese-associated parkinsonism, motor neuron disease, and smoking initiation, including as the latter relates to Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Searles Nielsen has authored more than 45 peer-reviewed articles, as well as served as a peer reviewer for nearly 30 medical, public health, and environmental health journals.
