Anders Björklund, MD, PhD

Professor of Histology at Lund University

Location: Lund Sweden

Anders Björklund is a Professor at the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center at Lund University in Sweden. In the 1970s, his group pioneered studies of neural transplantation to the brain, and developed techniques for cell replacement in animal models of Parkinson’s disease. The Lund neural transplantation program has been one of the leading clinical programs for the development of restorative therapies in Parkinson´s disease. His current research is focused on the use of stem cells and viral vector-mediated gene transfer for disease modeling, neuroprotection and repair, with the aim of developing new therapeutic approaches for Parkinson´s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
