Seung-Jae Lee, PhD

Professor at Seoul National University
Location: Seoul South Korea

Seung-Jae Lee, PhD is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Seoul National University. His research aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying protein aggregation and understand how this process contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. He has been investigating the mechanisms of cell-to-cell propagation of protein aggregates and neuron-glia interactions mediated by secreted protein aggregates. This line of inquiry has sparked his interest in the interplay between protein aggregation and inflammation/immunity. His future research aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which protein aggregation and immune modulation interact to exacerbate neurodegenerative diseases. Ultimately, the goal is to identify therapeutic targets that can disrupt the feed-forward relationship between protein aggregation and immune modulation. Dr. Lee received undergraduate education at Seoul National University and graduate training at POSTECH. He performed postdoctoral work at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, and then at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
