Dr. Brad Racette’s research is focused on investigating environmental and other risk factors for Parkinson’s disease (PD). His laboratory has conducted studies investigating environmental risk factors for PD in the United States, Europe and Africa. This expertise has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health through his service as chairman of the “Neurological, Aging and Musculoskeletal Epidemiology” study section for the Center for Scientific Review and as a council member on the National Advisory Environmental Health Sciences Council for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Additionally, his team has conducted seminal studies of PD risk using large administrative datasets, in particular Medicare. These studies provide the background supporting this proposal as well as the framework for research on PD health disparities worldwide. His work with Medicare data has been widely cited and influential in developing national health care policy for PD.
