Arvid Carlsson, MD, PhD, -- who changed the lives of millions living with Parkinson's by linking the disease to dopamine loss and discovering the effects of levodopa treatment -- has died.
"Dr. Carlsson's scientific discovery was transformative in both our understanding of this disease and efforts to treat it. The entire Parkinson's community is grateful for his contributions, and we continue to build on his work to define the causes and find a cure for Parkinson's disease," said Todd Sherer, PhD, CEO of The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
