Currently, Dr. German is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Dr. German received his PhD degree in Biological Psychology at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in 1975. After that he spent three years on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Physiology and Regional Primate Research Center at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has been on the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for over 30 years, and specializes in basic research on neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. German has published over 100 research publications and 23 book chapters/reviews. He has served on the Editorial Advisory Committee of several scientific journals, and on Grant Review Committees for the NIH, New Zealand Neurological Foundation, National Science Foundation, and Medical Research Foundation of Canada. In 2001 Dr. German received the Ornish Award in Alzheimer’s Disease Research and in 2002 he was awarded the Professional of the Year by the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society.
