Hao Wu, PhD, leads the Laboratory of Structural and Mechanistic Immunology at Boston Children's Hospital. In her research, Dr. Wu focuses on studying how components of the immune system assemble and communicate. Dr. Wu's laboratory focuses on innate immunity, including inflammasomes, which are large protein assemblies that help activate inflammation. She also studies other signals and receptors involved in inflammation, including tumor necrosis factor, a signaling protein produced by immune cells, as well as the toll-like receptor (TLR)/interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R) superfamily. A better understanding of these immune processes contributes to therapeutic development for diseases that involve the immune system, including cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases.
