Maureen Leehey, MD FAAN, is a board-certified neurologist, movement disorder specialist, and Section Chief of the Movement Disorders Program at the University of Colorado Denver on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. She has over 25 years of experience in the clinical management of movement disorder patients and is a leading clinical researcher in Parkinson’s disease. In 2001, Maureen Leehey played a key role in the discovery of a new movement disorder — Fragile X Tremor Ataxia Syndrome — that previously had often been mistakenly diagnosed as PD. In 2013 Dr. Leehey recognized the need for research on how cannabis affects people with Parkinson’s disease when the Parkinson’s population in Colorado started experimenting following legalization. She is currently at the forefront of clinical research into the use of cannabis in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease with over $1 million in funding.
