Christopher Hurt, PhD, investigates how older adults and individuals with neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease and stroke, lose mobility. He is particularly interested in the issues related to reduced stability during movement and reduced ability of the respiratory system to supply oxygen during physical activity in these individuals, who often move little and slowly. Currently, Dr. Hurt studies the role of balance confidence and stability in performing challenging movements in individuals with Parkinson's disease. The long-term goal of this work is to design and test clinical interventions that improve functional mobility of these individuals.
