Today Marks One Month Until the 6th Annual New England Parkinson’s Ride!

One month from today, hundreds of cyclists will come together in Old Orchard Beach, Maine for the 6th Annual New England Parkinson’s Ride– one of Team Fox’s largest, annual events and a true fan favorite.  With a beautiful course offering 10-, 30-, 50- and 100-mile options each hand marked by ride organizers Bob and Edna Woods, the New England Parkinson’s Ride is perfect for cyclists of all ages and experiences! Kicking off on Friday, September 6th, riders are treated to a pasta dinner on the Pier in Old Orchard Beach to meet, mingle and carb load for Saturday’s ride.

Inspired by family member and avid cyclist Chris Woods, who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s at the age of 41, the Woods Family has created a truly symbolic weekend for all those affected by Parkinson’s disease. Each year, Chris participates as part of “Team Woods”, riding in the 100 mile ride with family and friends, including wife Terry. Similarly, Susan Mollohan, a fellow Team Fox member also living with PD, will ride with her husband Steve as part of team “Suzy’s Shakers” for the fifth year in a row. Not surprisingly, there are also many riders, like Team Fox member Kimberly Sherman, who choose to ride in honor or memory of a loved one.  As Kimberly details:

Committing to the New England Parkinson's Ride and Team Fox has been a life changing decision. I have been able to meet a fabulous and inspiring group of people. From training and finishing with my husband, sons and family friends, to pedaling with Team Woods, to meeting the extended family and friends of Edna and Chris Woods, my life is forever changed.

The ride has grown substantially over the last six years from just 35 riders raising $27,000 in 2008 to over 440 in 2012 raising over $200,000 together!  This year is gearing up to be even bigger and better – and there is still time to register for any distance.   All riders must register via the New England Parkinson’s Ride website and are also asked to raise $100 in donations via Team Fox.
