Professor and Section Head of Microbiology and Immunology

Location: West Lafayette, IN United States

I am directing the Laboratory of Immunology and Hematopoiesis at Purdue University. We are interested in understanding the regulatory mechanisms that control T and B cell-mediated immune responses in mucosal versus systemic tissues. Comparative investigation of inflammation in the intestine and the central nervous system is our favorite research topic. Utilizing various pre-clinical models and human tissue models, we investigate the roles of nuclear hormones, commensal bacteria, and trafficking receptors in regulation of mucosal immune responses. I published ~85 research, review and chapter articles in reputable journals. Our publications have been cited extensively (>six thousand times so far). I received the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fellowship/Special Fellowship, the Sydney Kimmel Scholar Award, Pfizer Award of research excellence, and a Purdue University distinguished professorship (Purdue University Scholar) among numerous recognitions. I have been a recipient of 18 NIH and other foundation research grants.
