Guido Alves, MD, PhD, is a consultant neurologist and senior researcher at The Norwegian Centre for Movement Disorders, Stavanger University Hospital, Norway. After graduating from medical school at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, Dr. Alves did his residency training at the Department of Neurology in Stavanger. During his residency training, Dr. Alves joined The Norwegian Centre for Movement Disorders under the mentorship of Prof. Jan Petter Larsen, and focused his research activities on the clinical progression of Parkinson’s disease. For this work, he received his PhD degree from the University of Bergen, Norway, in 2006. His main research interest has been the study of disease heterogeneity in Parkinson’s disease, with special emphasis on clinical risk factors and prognostic biomarkers. Dr. Alves is currently in charge of the cerebrospinal fluid biomarker program of the Norwegian ParkWest project, a population-based longitudinal cohort study investigating the incidence, neurobiology and prognosis of Parkinson’s disease.
