Reinhard Schneider, PhD

Head of the Bioinformatics Core Facility at Luxembourg Centre for System Biomedicine

Reinhard Schneider, PhD, is head of the Bioinformatics Core Facility at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). From 2004 to 2010, he was team leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, where he led the Data Integration and Knowledge Management group. Prior to that, he was working to establish an IT-based knowledge management system for Bayer as co-founder and CIO of LION bioscience AG and CEO of LION bioscience Research Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1997, Dr. Schneider completed his postdoctoral training in the Biocomputing department at the EMBL, where he studied protein structure. He received his PhD in biology at the University of Heidelberg. He is the author of over 130 scientific publications. Dr. Schneider serves on the board of directors of the International Society for Computational Biology, where he earlier served as treasurer for seven years. He also heads ELIXIR-Luxembourg, the data hub for translational medicine, and is also involved in several start-ups.
