In an effort to speed clinical trial recruitment for PD research, The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) and Fox Trial Finder (FTF) have recently launched a series of Clinical Trial Fairs to take place this year and next in a city near you! Designed to bring local PD patients and their loved ones face-to-face with the trials that need them, these events are prime opportunities to learn more about the PD research going on in your community.
In the first of a series of many more to come, over 200 Parkinson’s disease patients and loved ones attended the inaugural Clinical Trials Fair in downtown Chicago on September 7th. Featuring 24 actively recruiting PD clinical trials represented by 5 leading research centers in the area, guests perused trial exhibits, asked questions of trial teams, and attended an expert panel presentation led by Todd Sherer, PhD, CEO of MJFF.
The audience also heard from Claudia Revilla — a Chicago-based PD patient and FTF Ambassador — who inspired the crowd by sharing her personal motivation for participating in clinical trials: “Parkinson's Disease is what moved me, so to speak, to get involved in the search of a cure that does not exist for a disease that is very real, lives in me and plans to exist until I decide to step in and participate.” Claudia also jokingly added, “If I was looking for a husband I would go to Match.com, but since I am looking for the cure to Parkinson's, I created a profile at Fox Trial Finder, simple as that.”
